Wallace and Gromit in 'A Matter of Loaf and Death'
Wallace and Gromit have been part of my life for as far back as I can remember, which goes back as far as The Wrong Trousers in 1993, I might have seen A Grand Day Out but I’m not certain, I am certain of the pride I used to feel of owning the duos three adventures in my VHS collection, my excitement for the feature length compared to my naïve excitement for the first Star Wars prequel but this time I was not to be disappointed, last year in Hvar, Croatia I stumbled over a Gromit Café on the water front, after insisting to Victoria that we have a drink here, we stole one of the menus, it still proudly sits in my home, so it was that this Christmas Day, after the pub and my Christmas dinner with Steve, it was to the television for a new adventure, and it was everything I hoped it would be, even better then the feature length, Gromit is doing what he does best in the narrative, more of the detective side of his character that he played in The Wrong Trousers, and I was so happy for him to finally get some romance, the voice work by Peter Sallis is top notch as usual, the animation is phenomenal with Nick Park’s usual attention to detail, my only complaint was that it was too short, the story felt like it could have used a longer running length, if justice is served this will see the pair when their fourth Oscar, four Best Animation wins for the same series must be some kind of record.
