The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
I wasn't sure I was going to see this film, I had a strong interest for it for quite a while, David Fincher is among my favourite American working directors, while I didn't care for Alien 3, The Game or Panic Room, I could see the strengths in all of them, Fight Club is stylistically slick in a way many films don't have the confidence to be, Se7en is horrific and intense and one of the best of detective films of the 90s (alongside Silence of the Lambs), Zodiac was one of my favourite films in the year it was released, what made me hesitate with Curious Case was that upon its release it started getting very mixed reviews, The Guardian only gave it 1 star and all of a sudden I wasn't that certain, but given Fincher's track record I couldn't shake the desire to see it, and I'm glad I did, I fall on the side that greatly enjoyed the film, I never found boring, indeed it didn't even feel like a long film despite clocking in at almost three hours, I was interested in this story of our own mortality from the moment of the very cool buttons logo that opens the picture to the time Benjamin reaches his infancy, moments on fate recall 'Magnolia' and the whole film works on similar levels to PT Anderson's masterpiece, Pitt delievers in his performance, and as most people say the technology in making Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett astounding, while 'Slumdog Millionaire' has merit, this film is the far best achievement out of all the films nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards this year.
